Cardiopulmonary Health and Your Pelvic Floor

Your pelvic floor muscles and diaphragm form the foundation and roof of your body's core. They work in sync as a closed system when you breathe.

We carry stress from our daily lives or may have health issues which make it difficult for that system to function as it should. Pelvic Floor PT can improve cardiopulmonary function for better overall quality of life.

Back Pain

Over the course of her practice, Dr. Weiss has noticed that even after PT, patients with chronic back pain continue to experience symptoms. The reason? The pelvic floor (the muscle group that supports your back) is never addressed.

What can I expect at a therapy session?

Dr. Weiss' clinic offers personalized attention and complete privacy: patients are never scheduled more than one at a time. The first session begins with a conversation addressing whatever discomfort or issue you are experiencing, along with your medical history, to develop a personalized plan of care.

Baseline assessments are made of strength, range of motion, posture and alignment of the hip and spine in sitting and standing positions.

Based on your comfort, either internal or external measures are taken of strength and coordination of pelvic muscle contraction and relaxation. An internal assessment is more accurate and the preferred manual muscle strength testing method by the American Physical Therapy Association and Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, however that method may not be the patient’s preference and Dr. Weiss accommodates assessments to meet individual patient needs.
